RATIONALE

MISSION

To develop Lexington, KY's local indie music scene to make it more economically stimulating for the local economy by centralizing the scene, involving non-music businesses, and enquiring city assistance

VISION

- Community involvement

- Collaboration between local businesses

- Increased traffic at local indie businesses and shows

- Influx of touring indie acts

- Improved conditions for artists

- Increased interaction between scene participants

OBJECTIVES

IMPROVE EXISTING INDIE ROCK SCENE

Improve existing local venues in terms of better accommodations for bands (e.g. green rooms, loading zones, ticket prices, etc.) and for show-goers (e.g. more all-ages shows, wider promotion, etc.)

ATTRACT TOURING BANDS

With the improvements outlined above, the development of the scene, and subsequent growing popularity, Lexington should become a more appealing touring destination for national and/or international indie artists

CENTRALIZE THE SCENE

Attract businesses (i.e. venues, independently owned music stores, indie record labels) to centralize around the Distillery District so as to encourage show-goers to interact with more aspects of the scene as well as other, non-music businesses

INVOLVE OTHER LOCAL BUSINESSES

As a scene emerges around the Distillery District, encourage integration of local non-music businesses as well (i.e. restaurants, food trucks, stores, art galleries, coffee shops, etc.) to extend the scene's economic benefit beyond venues and record stores

INCREASE SUPPORT FOR THE SCENE

To foster the growth and success of new indie businesses, the city of Lexington should offer tax breaks, incentives, and/or more conducive liquor laws to allow for all-ages shows. Encourage more support groups like LAMA to offer assistance to indie businesses and artists; encourage non-music businesses in the Distillery District to promote indie stores and shows
